Winter is one of the most magical times of the year in NYC, when intrepid locals and visitors embrace the cold and crystalline snow gives the city an added sparkle. Outside may be still with winter’s quiet, but inside is alive with theater, ballet, and cozy establishments looking to provide patrons a refuge from the cold. Here are just a few of our favorite New York City winter activities.
Visit one of NYC’s Top Museums
NYC winter weather can be challenging, and temperatures stand more or less at 30 degrees, so time spent inside is inevitable. Browse one of NYC’s best museums. The Met, American Museum of Natural History, Museum of Modern Art, and the Intrepid Sea, Air, and Space Museum are all excellent options. Each of these prestigious museums have various floors that showcase celebrated artworks, stunning scientific discoveries, or engineering marvels.
Make a NYC Winter Bucket List
The city’s wintry events don’t end after the New Year, they’re just beginning! Winter is a great time to start checking off your to-do list, when you are more likely to experience smaller crowds than during our beautiful summers. Need some ideas? Secure your spot at The Rink, Rockefeller Center’s ice skating rink that remains open until March 2023. Brave the year-round Top of the Rock observation deck at the pinnacle of 30 Rockefeller Plaza’s 70 floors. Or, get tickets to a sports game. NYC’s professional sports teams like the New York Rangers, New York Islanders, New York Jets, New York Knicks, and Brooklyn Nets are all active in the winter. Plus, theater is a year-round enterprise in NYC, so you’ll always find spectacular performances at Lincoln Center (New York City Ballet’s home!) and on Broadway. Stay tuned for our latest iteration of What’s New on Broadway This Winter, 2022 - 23, coming soon.
