What's New on Broadway This Winter 2021 - 22

Whether you prefer singing and dancing, comedy, intense drama, or dazzling visuals, there’s something for everyone this winter. December usually brings about a few more openings on Broadway before “winter break” (January through March where few, if any, shows open). Nevertheless, the show must go on! Here are the new Broadway shows opening this winter 2021 - 2022.

Skeleton Crew - Opens January 19, 2022 at Samuel J. Friedman Theatre

Set in 2008 Detroit, Skeleton Crew follows a close family of workers at an automobile factory on the brink of foreclosure. The line between blue and white collar becomes blurred, as the family reckons with their personal loyalties, instincts for survival, and hopes for humanity. Tony Award winner and five-time Emmy Award nominee Phylicia Rashad stars in the play, while Ruben Santiago-Hudson directs.

MJ The Musical - Opens February 1, 2022 at Neil Simon Theatre

The King of Pop’s unique and unparalleled artistry comes to Broadway in a brand-new musical centered around the making of his 1992 Dangerous World Tour. MJ stars Myles Frost as the titular character and offers a rare look at the creative mind and collaborative spirit that catapulted Jackson into legendary status.

The Music Man - Opens February 10, 2022 at Winter Garden Theatre

Hugh Jackman stars in the revival of Meredith Willson’s beloved musical as Harold Hill, a con man posing as a boys’ band leader in an effort to earn money before skipping town. Harold’s plans are soon thwarted when he falls in love with a librarian, Marian (Sutton Foster). The original run on Broadway in 1957 earned The Music Man five Tony Awards and a Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album.

The Little Prince - Opens March 17, 2022 at Broadway Theatre

The stage adaptation of the exiled French author and aviator Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s 1942 book features a stunning production of spectacle, dance, aerial acrobatics, and video mapping technology. The magical world of The Little Prince is recreated with storytelling that combines theatrical stagecraft with aerial artistry, soaring music, and electrifying choreography for a truly immersive experience.

Paradise Square - Opens March 20, 2022 at Barrymore Theatre

Set in lower Manhattan’s notorious Five Points slum in the throes of the Civil War, Paradise Square sees Black Americans and Irish immigrants come together at a local saloon in this overlooked true-life story of hope, possibility, and discovering what it means to be an American. Paradise Square is set to a contemporary score that reimagines early American song.
