Top Memorial Day Weekend Events in NYC

New York is always a good idea, but New York over Memorial Day is a great one. This year, the holiday falls on Monday, May 31. If you’re planning to stop by The Manhattan Club over the weekend, show off your red, white, and blue pride and check out these Memorial Day weekend events in NYC.

NYC Memorial Day Parade

Memorial Day is a time to remember and honor the people who have lost their lives in service of our country. One of the best ways to do that is by going to a Memorial Day parade. Although the Little Neck-Douglaston Memorial Day Parade in Queens is taking the year off, the United War Veterans Council will host a Memorial Day Convoy in Brooklyn on Monday, May 31 beginning at 11 a.m. The convoy will make its way to the Brooklyn VA Medical Center for a wreath laying in honor of our nation’s fallen heroes. Staten Island will host its own Patriotic Convoy at noon to honor the 30th anniversary of Desert Storm.

New York Yankees vs. Tampa Bay Rays

Memorial Day and sports certainly go hand-in-hand. In fact, baseball on Memorial Day has been a reliable presence for over a century. Snag tickets and visit Yankee Stadium in the Bronx to watch the New York Yankees battle the Tampa Bay Rays on Memorial Day at 1:05 p.m. The New York Mets are away in Phoenix, but you can watch them take on the Arizona Diamondbacks all the same on Memorial Day at 9:40 p.m. ET.

Enjoy New York City’s Best Parks

Since summer unofficially begins on Memorial Day, there’s no better time to spend the day strolling through New York City’s most popular parks. Find your favorite blooms, from cherry trees to daffodils and tulips to lilacs, with our guide to where to spot the prettiest spring flowers in NYC.

Fleet Week New York

This year, the U.S. Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard are proud to present Virtual Fleet Week New York 2021, May 26 - 31, hosted on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. The weeklong event is a new way for visitors to continue to take part in the annual celebration. Viewers are encouraged to check Fleet Week New York’s social media accounts each day as new content is added to the line-up, including live question-and-answer sessions and virtual ship tours. As an added bonus, one of the most popular places to visit at this time is the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum, which hosts movie screenings, live performances, interactive exhibits, and more.

Spend a Relaxing Day at Bryant Park

Bryant Park’s family-friendly activities like the Art Cart, Le Carrousel, and games abound, while adults will love the Reading Room and Fever-Tree Porch. Special Memorial Day programming includes a Spring Birding Tour, SPRING UP Urbanspace Market, and a performance by pianist Todd Robbins on the Upper Terrace from 12:30 - 2:30 p.m. Sit back and enjoy an afternoon of live jazz in the sunshine.

Memorial Day Run

Remember our nation’s fallen service members this Memorial Day by participating in a run or walk at any time during the course of the day. After registering, participants are personally matched with the name of a fallen service member. Simply speak the name of the honored hero and purposefully move in his or her honor. Participants will become a living memorial, ensuring that generations of sacrifice are not forgotten. The Memorial Day run is free of charge.
