New York City 4th of July Events Guide 2022

Before NYC’s summer season officially kicks into gear, celebrate America’s birthday with fireworks displays and cruises, American eats and rooftop parties, and a long weekend enjoying everything the city has to offer. Read on for our NYC 4th of July picks.

Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks 2022

The 4th of July in NYC is already a cause for celebration, but the day is set to be even more festive this year thanks to the Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks show and this year’s addition of live musical performances and celebrity hosts. The nation’s largest fireworks show will illuminate the Big Apple from the East River with a colorful display of pyrotechnics. The free public event begins at 8 p.m. See their website for the best place to catch the live spectacle.

Elevate your experience and see the fireworks from new heights at the One World Observatory in Manhattan’s Financial District. The Observatory is throwing a patriotic celebration 102 floors above the city with unparalleled views and unlimited American fare, passed canapes, sweets, and premium cocktails.

You can also see the fireworks show from the comfort of your suite at The Manhattan Club! The show is airing live on NBC or streaming on Peacock, so it’s the perfect excuse to snuggle up and enjoy our plush bedding, robes, and more residential-style amenities.

Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog-Eating Contest

Nathan’s Famous International Hot Dog-Eating Contest returns to the iconic flagship restaurant at the corner of Surf and Stillwell avenues in Coney Island this year. To watch is free on a first-come, first-served basis. The 4th of July event includes a women’s and men’s competition which will be held from 11 a.m to 1 p.m. as competitors vie for a chance to win some of the $40,000 prize purse. Like the Macy’s fireworks show, this NYC 4th of July event is renowned nationwide! See the live telecast on ESPN3 and ESPNEWS.

American Eats

Celebrate the 4th of July with all-American dishes at NYC’s bars and restaurants. Find classic NYC-style diner fare at Westway Diner or Joe Junior, and big plates of BBQ favorites at Dallas BBQ, Hill Country Barbecue Market, and Mighty Quinn’s Barbeque, all located in Manhattan.

4th of July Rooftop Parties

230 Fifth in the Flatiron District has a stacked lineup of parties all in celebration of the 4th of July. In fact, they’re hosting Independence Day brunches and nightly parties throughout the weekend, all culminating in a spectacular rooftop party with drinks, food, DJs and city views. The Harbor rooftop terrace is holding an all-day 4th of July party from 3 - 10 p.m. with performances by DJ Self, DJ Norie, and DJ Yung B. Check out places like American Brass in Long Island City, The Sentry atop the American Copper Buildings, Fornino in Brooklyn, and Watermark Beach in Manhattan, who have all put on memorable outdoor 4th of July parties in the past. Statue of Liberty

It’s only fitting one would visit America’s most iconic symbol of promise and possibility on the 4th of July. The 305-foot Lady Liberty statue can be accessed from Manhattan by purchasing ferry tickets online, at the Statue Cruises ticket booth in Castle Clinton in Battery Park, or by calling 1-877-LADY-TIX.

4th of July Fireworks Cruise

Celebrate the 4th aboard a cruise, of which NYC offers many. The Harbor Lights Yacht boasts spacious indoor and outdoor decks and lounges, and their ‘4th of July Fireworks Cruise’ includes a four-hour excursion, three-hour premium open bar, a buffet, amazing views of the Macy’s fireworks show, and NYC’s elite DJs. Alternatively, the multi-deck, first-class Hornblower Infinity ‘4th of July Signature Dinner Cruise’ is an excellent way to experience the city from the East and Hudson rivers with a chef-prepared menu, creative cocktails, beer, wine, DJs, and skyline views followed by the fireworks display.

Be in the middle of all the 4th of July fun when you book your NYC getaway with The Manhattan Club, a luxury Midtown Manhattan hotel only steps from Central Park, Times Square, the Theater District, and so much more. “The 7 nights we spent in The Manhattan Club was in every respect the best among our hotel-stays in the last 10 years! The location (Midtown, very close to Central Park), the quality and cleanliness of the room, and the kindness of the hotel-pertsonal makes this hotel an excellent place.” szalaygabor4, TripAdvisor

“Fantastic value in the middle of everything Manhattan. This is a hidden gem. Great staff, great location, well maintained unit. Walking distance to pretty much everything, and metro is right under your nose to go anywhere else. Loved every minute of staying here.” PaulRCITraveller, TripAdvisor

“The staff and the accommodations exceeded all of my expectations. This was our first trip to New York and the knowledge of the Club's staff on the venues, restaurants, stores were spot on and greatly appreciated. The Club put us within walking distance of the Neil Simon Theatre, Time Square, and Central Park. Following their suggestions and adding a little adventure of our own made our NY experience one for the ages. I can't wait to visit in the summer and catch a Yankees game.” Sherwin H, TripAdvisor
