Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and turkey float in New York.

Nov 22, 2019 | Seasonal Things to Do

New York’s Best Thanksgiving Day Traditions

Are you coming to New York for Thanksgiving? If so, The Manhattan Club is right in the center of the action. Located steps from the Macy’s parade route and even closer to top restaurants serving delicious Thanksgiving menus, you’ll have the best of New York’s Thanksgiving celebrations at your fingertips.

Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade

The largest public event in New York’s holiday calendar is the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Even if you’ve seen the live broadcast, there’s nothing like seeing the larger-than-life balloon gliding over the crowds. The parade kicks off at 9am on Thanksgiving Day in the Upper West Side and ends in Macy’s Herald Square at around noon. The parade and balloon inflation are free!

Where to See the Parade

Some of the best viewing spots are located along Central Park West and Sixth Avenue, between West 59th and West 38th Streets. People start gathering at 6am, so get a good night’s sleep the day before.

Balloon Inflation

Get a preview of what’s to come during the balloon inflation. The day before the parade, crews inflate the balloons around the American Museum of Natural History. Arrive any time between 1pm to 8pm to see the giant balloons come to life. Enter at West 73rd Street and Columbus Avenue and exit at West 81st Street and Central Park West.
