Best Summer Events in New York

New York’s summer of 2019 is in full swing. Every year, the city’s calendar is bursting with events too good to miss. If you’re unsure of what to do or where to go, we’re here to help. Here are The Manhattan Club’s top five picks. 

Shakespeare in the Park

Date: July 16–August 11, 2019
Location: Delacorte Theater, 81 Central Park West, New York, NY 10023
Tickets: Free and require waiting on line at select distribution points on the day of performance or register for lottery ticket options. 
Lining up for free, same-day tickets for Shakespeare in the Park is a “must” experience for anyone coming to NYC in summer. As one of the most popular seasonal events in the city, you can expect only the best contemporary theatrical talents. The second half of the season will feature Coriolanus, directed by Tony Award winner Daniel Sullivan. 

SummerStage

Date: June–October 2019
Location: Central Park and NYC neighborhood parks
Tickets: Most events are free except for benefit concerts 
Summer is about being outside. Whether it’s to sing, dance, or sway to good tunes, SummerStage has something for everyone. This is the perfect opportunity to see some of the best and up-and-coming artists and performers of every musical genre imaginable. It’s also the perfect way to spend a sunny, summer day in New York. 

Bryant Park Summer Movie Nights

Date: June 10–August 12 2019
Location: Bryant Park, New York, NY 10018
Tickets: Free admission, first come, first serve.
Before coming to New York, be sure to pack a comfortable picnic blanket. Bryant Park’s Summer Movie Nights are a tradition that brings together locals and tourists under the summer sky. Every Monday evening, the Lawn becomes an outdoor movie theater featuring contemporary and classic films in a relaxed and family-friendly atmosphere. Movies begin playing at sunset, between 8pm and 9pm, but gates open at 5pm. 

Lincoln Center Mostly Mozart Festival

Date: July 10–August 10, 2019
Location: Lincoln Center, 10 Lincoln Center Plaza, New York, NY 10023
Tickets: Some events are free, but most are ticketed.
Lincoln Center is, once again, hosting their annual tribute to Mozart, a musical genius unlike any other. This festival was built to suit every taste in every genre. Performances aren’t limited to just classical music concerts. Oh, no! You can get tickets for dance, theater, films, pre-concert recitals, artist talks, and much more.

Independence Day 

Join thousands upon thousands along the banks of the East River for the annual Macy's 4th of July Fireworks. With the Brooklyn Bridge as its backdrop, this is the ultimate summer extravaganza. Official viewing points are located in Lower Manhattan, near the entrances to Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges. We can’t stress this enough: Arrive early!
