Best Summer Events in New York

New York’s summer of 2019 is in full swing. Every year, the city’s calendar is bursting with events too good to miss. If you’re unsure of what to do or where to go, we’re here to help. Here are The Manhattan Club’s top five picks.

Lining up for free, same-day tickets for Shakespeare in the Park is a “must” experience for anyone coming to NYC in summer. As one of the most popular seasonal events in the city, you can expect only the best contemporary theatrical talents. The second half of the season will feature Coriolanus, directed by Tony Award winner Daniel Sullivan.

Summer is about being outside. Whether it’s to sing, dance, or sway to good tunes, SummerStage has something for everyone. This is the perfect opportunity to see some of the best and up-and-coming artists and performers of every musical genre imaginable. It’s also the perfect way to spend a sunny, summer day in New York.

Before coming to New York, be sure to pack a comfortable picnic blanket. Bryant Park’s Summer Movie Nights are a tradition that brings together locals and tourists under the summer sky. Every Monday evening, the Lawn becomes an outdoor movie theater featuring contemporary and classic films in a relaxed and family-friendly atmosphere. Movies begin playing at sunset, between 8pm and 9pm, but gates open at 5pm.

Lincoln Center Mostly Mozart Festival

Independence Day

Join thousands upon thousands along the banks of the East River for the annual Macy's 4th of July Fireworks. With the Brooklyn Bridge as its backdrop, this is the ultimate summer extravaganza. Official viewing points are located in Lower Manhattan, near the entrances to Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges. We can’t stress this enough: Arrive early! If you want to take it up a notch, see if you can snag some last minute tickets for a dinner cruise. Check out Hornblower Cruises, Liberty Cruise and Classic Harbor Line for more information.
